Silver Horizons New Mexico, Inc. (SH) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of senior citizens in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.
We strive to fulfill our mission in the following ways:
The Senior Hall of Fame Festivities - Each May we honor four seniors for their lifetimes of community service. The deadline for 2013 Nominations will most likely be in early fall this year. Please watch for it to be announced in July. Our 2012 Inductions Dinner will be held Thursday, May 24, 2012.
Emergency Utility Bill Assistance - SH continually works to raise funds to help in-crisis seniors avoid having their gas and electricity turned off.
Home Repairs, Retrofits and Chores - SH purchases building and repair materials and hires temporary workers to assist the City of Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Department of Senior Affairs Home Services Project with minor home repairs, retrofits, and chores for low-income, frail and in-crisis seniors.
Funding - Proceeds from our special events, grants and donations from the community at large are used to fund SH's aid programs.
Senior Assistance Fairs - Since July 2011 SH has collaborated with PNM's Good Neighbor Fund to provide quarterly "Fairs" at which limited-income seniors can seek assistance from multiple helping organizations at a single event.
Holiday Adoption Program - Every Fall, Silver Horizons recruits businesses, organizations, groups and individuals to adopt low-income senior/disabled housing facilities for sharing holiday cheer in December. Each year about 20 facilities are adopted bringing holiday parties and/or gifts to approximately 400 older and disabled adults by 140 or so volunteers.
